Our admissions staff can assist you in determining the appropriateness of CALO for your child. They are familiar and acutely aware of the concerns of families who are taking the very difficult first step to place their child in a residential program. They will help you by addressing concerns and answering questions to further assist you in understanding the program, the student make-up, and distinctions that make CALO unique.
CALO’s admission procedures are conducted by staff who are trained and designated to conduct initial assessments, provide information about CALO, and gather additional records and information as needed. The Admissions Director also provides basic information regarding student needs, history and family composition to CALO staff at the time of admission. The Admissions staff also provides alternative care suggestions when appropriate.
I. CALO acceptance process:
CALO admissions must have the following material in order to consider and accept a student. Student acceptance can be confirmed within several days of receiving the below information:
Once a student is accepted:
The following materials must be completed, signed and returned to CALO prior to a student’s enrollment. They may be faxed or mailed to the Admissions Director.
II. Psychological Testing Requirement
A full battery of psychological testing is required prior to a student’s admission into CALO. This is a key item used by the CALO admissions staff to help determine a students’ appropriateness for CALO. The testing must be less than one-year old and preferably include the following items: 1) a diagnostic interview, 2) intelligence testing, 3) personality testing and 4) achievement testing. In lieu of current testing CALO will accept a current detailed Psychiatric Evaluation dated within the last calendar year, with this documentation, CALO reserves the right to require an updated psycho-educational testing upon enrollment. If updated testing is requirement for your child, the CALO admission staff will inform you.
III. CALO Campus Tour
Our parent(s)/guardians are a large part of the treatment process at CALO. We encourage at least one if not both parents to start their involvement early by touring CALO as part of the admission process. This allows parent(s)/guardian(s) the opportunity to get to know the CALO program and staff on a more personal level. The initial tour/visit includes the following: a tour of the CALO grounds and facility, meetings with the CALO leadership, clinical, recreation staff and academic staff.
